Workman's Hands

I have been using Nancy Goudie's book Spiritual Health Workout recently. One of the exercises she suggests is using your imagination to visualise coming into the throne room of God. As I was doing that the other day, I had an amazing experience.

I was picturing in my mind a very beautiful room, full of light and colour.

Workmans handsI could see the golden throne gleaming and had an impression of a very richly embroidered robe worn by the occupant of the throne. Then I had a real surprize. God's hands, resting on this robe, were workman's hands, rough and with ingrained dirt from hard work. This moved me to tears - but at first I couldn't work out why. As I thought about it, I was struck by the fact that God is a Creator. He made the world and He continues to make new things (Rev 21 v5).

Isn't it amazingly wonderful that we can come to the King, the Lord of all, and He doesn't have manicured hands that aren't used to getting involved in our messy lives. Anyone can see the delight God took in creating the world.

That sort of creative energy is part of His nature, so He is always pleased to make new things, for us, and in us.
